  • Prepping for the autumn fairs/markets

I am in full swing prepping for the different markets and fairs that are coming up in the fall here in DK and I can't seem to find time enough in the 24 hours we have per day, to get it all done.

I am at the moment creating candles to go with the different trays and candle holders, and I am having a lot of fun with that, which for me is the main goal here.

The process of making candles is a bit longer than jesmonite as it takes about 10-12 hours before I can de-mold the candles without breaking them, and I had to experiment quite a lot with the texture of parafin and soy to get the right consistancy and I learned new words like sink holes and craters ;-)

So below is a picture of the bubble candle batch that I am currently making.

They are just too lovely right? ;-)

Once they have cooled down they look like this:
    Cute right?

Now I had to watch quite a lot of candle making videos and get a hold of molds for candles as well so it is not quite a creap start to get into candle making, but I am sure it is worth it, when I go to the fair and the market. I really hope people will like them together with the Jesmonite Items.

I got some new jesmonite molds as well, and they arrived just in time so I would not have to pay fines and extra import taxes, as all european countries now have seperate rules from the rest of the world, so both Brexit and that new rule for internal puchases outside EU, has give the small business owners a right hook straight to the face, as everything is being taxed differently now.

Since I have to make changes to the webshop to comply with these new rules, i decided to make some changes to the overall design, and to add MobilePay to it, as I can see in the log, that some people skip my shop just when it is time to pay for the items, and I am confident that making it possible to pay with your phone instead of only credit cards, will increase the orders placed in the shop, which I would love like any other small business owner ;-)

I am going to a huge fair in Fredericia in Denmark called Creative days (Kreative dage) in october and it runs over 3 days, with onsite working stations to show off the skills that the handcrafters have. I really hope it will be a success and that we can have more people in Denmark know about Jesmonite, as it is relatively unknown here.

Wish me luck with the process of making enough items, to showcase the whole thing and add attention to my small business.

    Love

    S.

  • When things come together <3

So I finally got to a point, where all the stuff is coming together, and where shop, marketing, packaging, shipping and creating the items is in place, and it is really satisfying to start shipping items to their new homes <3

I have way too little time and way too many ideas to fit into one persons life, so I am trying to balance it with work and having time for family and friends.

I have had trouble getting some of my ideas into real life, so just ideas in my head, trying to get them come to life, so a few weeks back I purchased some silicone mix, to start creating my own molds.

I can report back that the process is fun, creative and VERY sticky and messy. But I got two prototypes done - Candle stick holder molds in two different sizes. I am very proud of the way it turned out, and I added a pair to my shop and got an order the same day. Love this!! <3

New candle stick holder straight out of the silicone mold

I love the simple yet classic design of these holders and I have struggled to find any molds, as a lot of the community around jesmonite use the same boring molds and I didn't just want to copy that.

So as from today these candle holders are my signature and I hope you like them as much as I do <3

This is also definitely not the last time that I am making a silicone mold.

Luckily my boyfriend is a carpenter so he will help me create the frames so I can cast the molds easily.

One of the nex things I will try to venture into is creating candles that match the jesmonite items, and in the near future I will start to sew bags from the fur that my good friend Stina from RUNT design is making.

There will be some posts on that later on and for those of you who hate the thought of killing animals and using their fur, I can only say that we are trying to live by the rules that we treat animals humane, have them live in harmony and when we do kill them, its not for the purpose of the fur, its to be more holistic, use every part of the animal is used and nothing goes to waste, that will support our effort to cut down on CO2 and having a very different appreciation for meat. So if you still think it is murder, I am very sorry, that is entirely ok and up to you, but for me its a way of living a life, where I do everything I can to be mindful and not harm our planet more than it already is.

I want to give a planet to my kids, that gives them hope for the future, and I have no idea if we are on the right track or if things will get worse. But this is my contribution to trying to give them that.

Give love out - the world does not have enough of it <3

  • New Partnership with RUNT design

This week I have made a partnership with Stina from RUNT design, and I am so happy to be working with her.

She has a passion for sustainability and like me, she does not like to waste anything if we dont have to.

She is breeds rabbits and uses the very eco-friendly meat to cook, and she uses everything of the animal so that almost nothing is left for waste.

Now for some very Vegan extremists, that might sound awful, but plenty of studies show that breeding rabits for meat, is a very sustainable option and we use the fur to create items for reuse.

In that way we know that the animal had a good life, that the meat is organic and that nothing was wasted in the process, as they consume leftover greens and fruits and do not produce a lot of CO2.

In Denmark there is not a great tradition on eating rabbits, and we want to change that, as most other countries do have a tradition to do so.

The rabbit furs in the picture is snow white, black and brown and very beautiful and the process of tanning it, is both hard and exciting and both Stina and I will join a course to ensure that we do it the right way. That is one of the tasks for April/may

I will post here how it goes.

    Greetings from CPH

  • New molds - Huge vases oh my gosh!

I ordered these beauties as molds about two months ago, and guess what!! They arrived today. I am beyond excited and cannot wait to start using them.

Pricey as hell, but I hope that I got the design right for the scandinavian audience. I already have a few pre-orders on them, so I will start using them next week.

A friend of mine, Stina and I are planning for a huge creativity event in the fall, where we will be at the Creative days in Fredericia (Denmark) I have sooo many ideas on what to make, sell and inspire abount. I really hope we can make things happen there.

    As always yours truly
